UPDATE 2/2/23: On the 64th anniversary of man-of-the-people Che Guevara having seized control of a luxurious beachfront mansion from its rightful owner, it’s a good time to reflect on the blood-soaked conquest and rape of free Cuba beginning in 1959.
Alas, still emanating from the empty cranial cavities of Western Leftists are those romantic Castroite fantasies: 100% literacy rate! 100% free medical care! Gee, why would all those people give up their lives trying to literally swim away from Fidel & Che’s island paradise? Perhaps the incurable Fidelistas might thoughtfully pore over a partial list of atrocities on which this so-called “revolution” was built and continue to this day. When will a real journalist ask Hanoi/Havana Jane if her major regret in life is still not having enjoyed carnal congress with the T-shirt coverboy and monster Che? So many lies, so much evil, so little time.

UPDATE 2/21/22: Fidel is still dead, but his little island remains a hotbed of plotting and conniving for Global Revolution. Its strategic proximity to America and the rest of Latin America is a plus. Now add a newborn totalitarian dictatorship just Up North, and lacking resistance, you have a whole North American continent invaded and itching to go a bright Red.
UPDATE 7/28/21: “But what is a communist but a socialist with a gun. And, in the end, socialists always need guns.” Cuba shows signs of real resistance while those in power get rid of possible high-ranking military who might go soft and join the insurrection (a real one and well justified).
UPDATE 7/17/21: Could it be our own leadership is threatened by the rise of serious resistance to communism in Cuba? Is this bad optics for those intent on controlling us likewise on these shores?
UPDATE 4/17/21: Documentarian Ken Burns has mysteriously overlooked his manly macho man hero Ernest Hemingway’s predilection for mixing daquiris to go, then inviting George Plimpton to join him in some remote spot where his friend Che Guevara directed one of Fidel’s death squads to execute a truckload of counter-revolutionary Cubans.
Ever wonder why you were put off, frankly annoyed reading Hemingway? Despite the skill of crafting lean, concise prose, there is a quality of cold hardness and detachment in that style and content. Now it all fits, knowing of his sick love for the stomach-churning cruelty of bullfighting and, worse, getting his jollies watching Che murder a couple dozen Deplorables between sips of expensive tequila.
UPDATE 12/6/16: Perfect metaphor for how well communism(and all its “compassionate” variations) works when the hearse bearing Castro’s remains breaks down and has to be pushed by hand.
ORIGINAL POST 11/29/16: With sarcastic regret, this site apologizes for not including Fidel Castro here sooner among those tyrants, infamous and smalltime, whose lives have been lived for no other purpose than to cause suffering. The sphere of influence varies among humanity’s monsters. Some are just the local pot-stirrer, the pest, the vicious gossip & rumormonger, the thuggish toad doing Il Capo’s (El Commandante‘s!!) bidding.
Perhaps the lesson perennially unlearned here from our own political Mafia is that there is no evil Capo like Fidel without cooperative underlings carrying out his orders, directly or indirectly. That includes those prominent intellectuals, celebrities, media pundits, pandering politicians, and the predictable Leftwing fanatics (like Black Lives Matter) outside of Cuba who, since 1959, could somehow blind themselves to the predictably murderous psychopath Castro always was, actively praising him, conferring on him the stature of Heroic Idealist of Historical Importance. Perhaps they really believe that murder and torture as means to utopian ends is just fine.
The jaw drops helplessly to the floor listening to the reaction of two embarrassing Leftwing U.S. Presidents (not including Bill Clinton and the everlasting shame of the Elian Gonzalez affair) and one laughable Canadian Prime Minister regarding Fidel’s long awaited demise:
Jimmy Carter(at his most skin-crawlingly unctuous): “Rosalynn and I share our sympathies with the Castro family and the Cuban people on the death of Fidel Castro. We remember fondly our visits with him in Cuba and his love of his country. We wish the Cuban citizens peace and prosperity in the years ahead.”
Translation: any enemy of America is a good friend of mine.
Barack Obama(at his most cold, covert and detached) : “We know that this moment fills Cubans — in Cuba and in the United States — with powerful emotions, recalling the countless ways in which Fidel Castro altered the course of individual lives, families, and of the Cuban nation,” Obama said in a statement. “History will record and judge the enormous impact of this singular figure on the people and world around him.”
Translation: be very careful what you read into this, you stupid racist.
Justin Trudeau(at his most gigglingly infantile) : “It is with deep sorrow that I learned today of the death of Cuba’s longest serving President. Fidel Castro was a larger than life leader who served his people for almost half a century. A legendary revolutionary and orator, Mr. Castro made significant improvements to the education and healthcare of his island nation. While a controversial figure, both Mr. Castro’s supporters and detractors recognized his tremendous dedication and love for the Cuban people who had a deep and lasting affection for ‘El Comandante’. I know my father was very proud to call him a friend and I had the opportunity to meet Fidel when my father passed away. It was also a real honour to meet his three sons and his brother President Raúl Castro during my recent visit to Cuba. On behalf of all Canadians, Sophie and I offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and many, many supporters of Mr. Castro. We join the people of Cuba today in mourning the loss of this remarkable leader.”

Actually, fellas, Fidel was a homicidal headliner in our lifetimes; and along with those he murdered, mutilated, terrorized, tortured and tormented in the name of Marxist Equality, we are very much at peace with the thought of him Frying In Hell (FIH). And in such good company: Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Pol Pot, Arafat, Chavez!
On a positive note resonant with the truth and blessedly contrary to the fashionable viewpoint of those Useful Idiots among our chattering classes, we offer our new President’s assessment of Fidel Castro:

Fidel Castro’s legacy is one of firing squads, theft, unimaginable suffering, poverty and the denial of fundamental human rights. Contrasting Obama’s typically sneaky ambiguity with Trump’s straight talk provides yet another reason to breathe a great sigh of relief as the Clinton/Obama chapter in our history comes to its merciful end. We have been in the clutches of Marx-inspired collectivists/master planners who, like the Butcher of Havana, have doled out deliberate lies about salvation for the sole purpose of gaining absolute power. With this most recent election, American Leftists like Black Lives Matter have missed the chance for similarly absolute, dictatorial power. They have admired the likes of Castro for going that extra distance and REALLY applying those noble Socialist principles. Never mind the blood-soaked consequences and that little thing missing called freedom.
In America, bullet dodged. We celebrate our own good fortune with the Cuban people and wish them the blessings of life and liberty and pursuit of happiness brutally denied them for the last 60 years.
